NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

TOWN OF SHELDON

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held by the Town Board of the Town of Sheldon at the Town Office, 1380 Centerline Rd., Strykersville, NY in the Town of Sheldon on the 21st day of September 2016 commencing at 8:00 p.m. to give citizens the opportunity to consider a proposed local law that will allow the Town Board to adopt a budget for the fiscal year 2017 that requires a real property tax levy in excess of the limit specified in General Municipal Law §3-c.

The State Legislature and the Governor enacted legislation that establishes a “property tax cap” on the amount that a local government’s property tax levy can increase each year.  Said cap is 2% or the rate of inflation, whichever is less, with some exceptions. Local communities have the ability to override this cap with the adoption of a local law.

ALL PERSONS INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THIS HEARING WILL BE ENTITLED TO BE HEARD AT THE TIME AND PLACE THEREOF

Copy of the proposed local law is also available for review at the Town Clerk’s Office during regular office hours.

Carol Zittel, Clerk

Town of Sheldon
